Word 2000 (Office 2000 Small Business) and Windows XP OS

I installed Office 2000 Small Business on my Windows XP machine, and Word
does not open successfully. It opens partially and then I get a "Progam has
stopped responding" message. Is there a fix?

Have you locally installed a printer driver and set it as the windows
default printer?

No I haven't. Should I?

Yes. Word uses the printer driver to calculate how the document gets set
out. It must have a printer driver to work.

I should add that it doesn't matter if you don't actually have a printer,
Word needs to see the locally installed printer driver set as the Windows
Default. So if you don't have a printer, chose one of the basic drivers that
come with Windows. Just do an Add Printer and search the list for one you
think suitable.

This may not be as easy as it sounds. Some printers can't be installed
without a physical connection; they are too "smart."
