Word 2000 Office freezes when opening a file in Open dialog box

I'm running Windows 95 at my workplace which is a high
school. I can open a file directly from the A: drive but
when using the Open dialog box, Word or Windows hangs with
the hourglass. I Ctrl+Alt+delete and the computer
displays a "not responding" message next to Word. How can
I troubleshoot this problem since students cannot access
the A: drive directly and can only open their files
through the Open File dialog box? THank you.

NEVER save to or open from a floppy disk. It was the number 1 cause of
document corruption and loss. It is no longer number 1 because many new
computers don't have floppy disks and most users email document as
attachments to emails rather then transporting them manually. But using a
floppy is still a document killer. What you should do is always save to the
hard drive first and then copy to the floppy (and vice versa for opening).
