Word 2000 opening error

R

Raul Freitas

I recently upgraded to Office 2000 from Office 97. When I opened Word for
the first time, I got a message saying I needed an updated template file for
my scanner. I loaded the appropriate file, and deleted the old template.
Now, whenever I load Word, after the splash screen I get a message saying
"Word cannot open this document template" pointing to the old, no longer
necessary template for Office 97.

Is there an ini file somewhere that I cannot edit to keep this from
happening? I can click on OK and Word starts normally, but it is annoying.

Thanks for any help -- by the way, I already checked Knowledge Base article
Q224025 and the solutions don't apply.

Thanks in advance,

Raul Freitas

Try going to control panel, add remove(MS word), then repair. That could do it

Check the Word and Office Startup folders for Add-Ins related to your
scanner.

No, the problem is an old template that no longer applies for my scanner
that I deleted. Word is looking for a template that is no longer on my hard
drive.

Word is not looking for a template that no longer exists. It is trying to
load one that it should not. The template exists. I've told you where to
look.

LISTEN TO ME -- the file does not exist ANYWHERE on my hard drive. What
part of that do you not understand?

I think what Charles is trying to tell you is that it is not the file that
"Word" is looking for that is the problem. It is an add-in that is looking
for the file and causing Word to give you the error message. You need to
find the add-in that is looking for the missing file and get rid of that as
well.
