word 2000 opens an old doc everytime it starts up

when I open word 2000, I see the same letter typed
everytime. I want to open to a blank document but it
always opens this old letter as default and I cant seem
to get rid of it. If anyone can tell me how to clean it
off so i dont have to see the same letter everytime I
open word that would be great.
