Word 2000 Program error exits Word!

Has anyone had the window pop up that says "PROGRAM ERROR
WINWORD.EXE has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error
log has been generated."

This occurs approximately 40 seconds after I start the
word program. I don't even type anything! It seems to act
like it doesn't want to be there and leaves!

Any suggestions as to cause?

Had the same problem and found an answer on usenet that solved it in my case.

Do you have a network printer? It seems if you have a network printer set
as your default printer, and it is OFF or unavailable you may egt this error
from Word2000. That was my case. I've had the network printer for ages, but it
was not previously set as default. For some reason it set itself as default
one day, and I started getting this problem in Word2000.

I reset my normal (usb) printer to default, and the problem is solved.

Alternatively, just make sure that the driver for the network printer is
installed locally and pointed to the network.
