A template I created in Word 2000 causes Word 97 to crash.
A few seconds after the template has loaded, a dialog
appears stating: "Program Error -- WINWORD.exe has
generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program. An error log is being
created."
Curiously, mouse activity (clicking, scrolling up and
down, etc.) seems to delay the crash. In fact, I have
been able to get as far as saving the document before it
goes belly-up. The 'saved' document ends up zero bytes
long, however.
Curiouser and curiouser, although I don't know if it's
significant, I noticed that in Word 2000, with the same
template loaded, the vertical scroll bar keeps changing in
size, as if the document was growing and shrinking. This
even happens while focus is on another application. Word
2000 does not crash, however.
I'm told I may be able to work around this, but I'm still
interested to know why this happens. I'll check other
templates I have created with Word 2000, and see if I get
the same result.
Thanks in anticipation!
