Word 2000: want document to display as two half-sized pages on one sheet of paper

Word Worrier

Using tips from this group and from mvps.org, I was able to use Word
to print a 64-page booklet, made up of 16 sheets of 8 1/2 by 11 paper
folded in half. That is, the book was 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 and pages 32 and
33 were on the top sheet as it came off the printer, 30 and 35 on the
top of the next sheet, etc.

Now, I'd like to convert that Word file to a pdf so I can email
electronic copies to people. To simulate the look of the actual
printed book, I'd like it to display as landscape 11 by 8 1/2 paper as
follows:

The first sheet will have a blank left half and page 1 will make up
the right half.

The next sheet will have page 2 on the left half and page 3 on the
right half.

And so on until the last sheet, with 64 on the left and blank on the
right.

My current Word 2000 document has the page setup like this:

top/bottom margins: .6 inches
inside/outside margins: .5 inches
gutter: 5.5 inches
header/footer: .5 inches from edge
mirror margins checked

This gives me sheets that display as follows:

First sheet is blank on the left half (5.5 inches) and has page one on
the right half.

Second sheet is blank on the right half and has page two on the left.

Etc. (Sheet N is blank on the left for odd N, blank on the right for
even N, and has page N on the other half).

Surely to get it to display/print as I want can't be that hard. Can
it?

No one answered, so I played around and dug, and finally got my
answer. I changed things so the gutter was 0, then set the text up as
two columns (for appearance, I checked the box for a dividing line
between them).

It wasn't quite that simple; I had to play around and elminate certain
section breaks, or change some page breaks to column breaks, and to
get the page numbering right, I had to use the info found at
http://www.word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/Print2Pages.htm

But in the end, I got what I wanted. Hope this helps someone else.
