Word 2000 & windows XP

Fran

I installed my Word 2000 CD onto my new Windows XP. When I
tried to update it with the Service pack 3, I got a
message to verify the authenticity of my program. I bought
the CD a few years ago and had it installed on Windows ME.
Now that I have upgraded to Windows XP, am I not entitled
to update this same word processor which I paid for? If I
cannot update, what is the use of buying original software?

Yes, it is Word 2000 SR-1. Do you happen to have a phone
number for this Microsoft confirmation, preferably a 1-800
number?
Thanks.

Hi Fran,

Since you are asking for a 1-800 number I doubt this applies to you.
:)

There were some versions of Office 2000 that required activation
however those versions were primarily in Australia.

I suspect you have an upgrade version of Office 2000 and prompt you
are encountering is requesting the qualify product perhaps? What is
the exact message?

It is a retail version of Word 200 SR-1.
By visiting the Microsoft Download center I was able to
download the Security patches needed for my version. It is
only when I click on Office update that I cannot update
automatically.

Is this Word 2000 with Service Release 1? Because Word 2000 introduced a
sort of Registration, activation policy, If it was already activated on the
Windows ME PC, its possible you are going to have call Microsoft to get a
confirmation for the program.
