Word 2000 won't let me use the save file type as box

When i go to file -> save as, the drop down box for the
different file types you can save the document as is
greyed out. I'm opening a .dot file and i need to save
it as a .doc file. This also happens with any other file
type i open in word. The save file type as box is always
greyed out. Does anyone know how to get access to this
box?? Thank you for your help.

Hi Jared

When the current window contains a .dot file, the Save As box is supposed to
be greyed out because you are not allowed to save a template as another file
type. To get a .doc file that contains the same text as the template, use
the File > New dialog and select the template as the base for the new
document. You will be able to save that as a .doc file. The document will
automaticallly contain the text and copies of the styles in the template; if
you need to copy macros from the template to the document, use the Organizer
(Tools > Templates and Add-Ins, Organizer).

It is not normal behavior for the Save As box to be greyed out for most
other file types. What specific files are you trying to save as different
types?
