word 2000 won't open, knowledge base doc no help

Whenever I try to open word I get the message "Microsoft
Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I tried
doing two things to fix it found on the MS web tech
support page and neither works. Also tried uninstalling
and reinstalling Word to no avail. Please help.
