word 2000 & xp

I have a problem on a win me pc, 800Mhz 96M RAM

word 97 works ok
word 2000 crashes while starting-up, I just get the splash screen, then pc
freezes.
word xp starts ok, I can move up & down pages ok using pg-up pg-dn & arrow
keys, but pc freezes when dragging side slider with the mouse, or roller on
the mouse?

i only have one version on at once, all have been installed, and
un-installed several times.

I also tried running 'eraser 2000' inbetween without any luck.

any ideas?

yes I have done this in the past, this time only one has been on at once,

Then I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to accomplish by successively installing and uninstalling the different versions. If Word 97 works without problems, use it. Notwithstanding Microsoft's published system requirements, your PC might not be fast enough or have enough disk space to run Word 2000 or 2002, and WinME is not the most ideal platform for these later versions.

the problem is the owner of the pc has a registered version of office 2000,
it just stopped working, so i tried my copy of97, & it worked fine, I then
tried my copy of xp, (borrowed from work), & bit just locks-up when moving
up & down pages. His 2000 just would not open

do you understand now?
