Word 2001 make footer text darker / more visible?

Is there a way to make the text in the header/foot more visible when
the page is in "Layout" view? Right now it's greyed out unless I'm
actively working on the header or footer, but when I switch back to
layout view it's really hard to see.

Actually, version makes no difference in this case PC or Mac :)

Headers/Footers are lighter by design while working in the text because the
content is in a different "layer" of the document. Likewise, body content is
dimmed when working in the H/F layer. It's done that way to make it more
obvious what is contained in which & there is no setting or adjustment to
make it otherwise.

Even if you apply bold to the H/F content it will still be dimmed when
working in the text layer... And you'd have to remember to turn the bold off
each time you wanted to print, then turn it back on.

Why don't you [temporarily] change the footnote text style to a larger and
perhaps different font? Then change back when the document is ready.

And/or work in Normal view... :)
