Word 2001 quits on startup

I've got Mac Word 2001 on OS 9.2.2 that has been working fine for
several years. It has started quitting immediately when I open the
software. It starts up, gives me the splash screen to allow me to
choose what kind of document to open and when I select a new document,
Word opens a blank document, displays the blank for a second or two,
and immediately quits. I deleted all Word
preferences and it still happens, ran Disk Warrior and the VIB is OK.
All other Office programs are working OK, just Word quits. It quits
with system Extensions On or Off.

Any ideas what to try next? It acts as if the new blank document it
creates is corrupt because it quits immediately after displaying the
document. TIA, Dana

Beth...Thanks for the reply. I have been through the steps shown at
that URL. Word does open and display a blank document for a second or
two. Is there a "default" blank docment somewhere that is being opened?
Maybe that is the culprit? I have turned off all fonts except for the
basic "city" fonts needed for the Mac to run and that did not help. Any
other ideas out there? Thanks, Dana
