Word 2002 always crashing on one user's desktop

My husband and I share a computer. Yhe version of Word
2002 on my desktop works fine but my husband's version
keeps crashing, especially when changing files or users.
An error message that Microsoft must close keeps coming
up, often follwed by a message that changes to the global
template Normal have been made and asks if we want to
save these changes. We usually click no. Can anyone help
us solve this irritating proble. By the way, we are using
a Dell 4550 computer with Windows XP. Needless to say,
Dell is of no help with this problem

Whatever you do, DO NOT uncheck the box prompting to save normal.dot. This
is like taking the battery out of your smoke detector!

As Word works fine for you but is flaky for your hubby's profile, the most
likely cause is that his normal.dot is partially corrupt. You need to locate
his normal.dot and rename it to normal.bad. You will find it in Documents &
Settings, Username, Application Data, Microsoft, Templates. You must be
logged in as hubby before you can do this though. Whilst in this folder,
also look in Documents and Settings, Username, Local Settings, Temp and make
sure that the temp folder is empty (when all other applications are closed).
Simply delete everything you find in Temp.

Only a bloody fool would clear that check box. Please don't tell anyone to
do that again.



: Go to Tools > Options > Save (tab) look to see if the "Prompt to Save
Normal
: template", is checked, if it is uncheck it.
