Word 2002 close program problem

Dave

My copy of Word 2002 is producing a similar problem
as "Bob" had with his Word 2003 (several posts prior to
this one ("Using Microsoft Office Word 2003, when I close
Word, I get a prompt "The file Normal.dot already exists.
Do you want to replace the existing file?" Selecting Yes
updates Normal.dot, but I get the same message box the
next time I open and close word.")

In my case, NAV Office Plug-In IS already disabled. If I
answer "Y" to the normal.dot prompt, Word 2002 sits for
10-11 seconds and finally closes. If I answer "N", the
program closes immediately. Word 2002 also takes a bit
longer than it used to while opening.

I have implemented the suggestions in "Problems Opening
Word" and have installed all the current updates
including SP2.

Any ideas? Thanks.

What happens when you start Word in Safe Mode? Use Start, Run and type in

winword /a

and press enter. Will it save properly now?

Everything works without delay using "winword /a". (I'm
not even asked to save anything extra!) What should I do,
now, to use the regular opening method of Word? Thanks
for your help.

This indicates that there is some other third party add-in incompatible with
Word. Check out the following FAQs for help with this:

Here's what finally seemed to work:

I went to "Tools/Macro/Security" and UN-checked "Trust
All Installed Add-Ins & Templates". On starting WORD, I
was then presented with a box which indicated
that "Program Files\Microsoft Works\WKWDADDN.DLL" was
being used each time WORD was opened. I selected "Enable
Macros", so the box will not come up each time WORD is
started and now everything works nice and quickly, as
original installation.

I don't know what originally caused all this, but
unchecking the "Trust All Installed Add-Ins & Templates"
apparently was the fix!

This is the Word Suite Add-in. It is full of bugs galore. Go to the Control
Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select the Works Suite Add-in and Uninstall it.
