Word 2002 Crashes

I am running Office XP pro on a networked computer and word continually crashes when we try to open a saved email attachment. The attachment is also a word document that can be opened and printed from Word within Outlook Express, but as soon as the document is saved to the harddrive and we try to open it with Word the computer freezes. I have installed all updates to Office XP available and have tried reinstalling and repairing Office XP but still have the same problem.
