My Dell P4, 2.66GHz 512RAM , XP Home, is less than a year
old. I am paranoid about trying to keep it as lean/mean
as possible, but I am still finding it unbearably SLOW
when opening/closing Word 2002 docs, of which I have
thousands!! (work) I de-frag regularly, have shut down
all non-essential apps via 'msconfig', have only one
(necessary) item in 'start-up' (hot synch manager).
I regularly run System Mechanic/Spybot Search/AdAware.
(And of course my virus software/definitions are kept up
to date.) I also have and use Reg Cleaner 4.3 to MANUALLY
remove registry entries that apply to programs I know I
do not have any longer.
I have also used Registry Medic... I know my registry is
as "un-bloated" as possible, yet the speed of
opening/closing the Word docs has not imporved.
I have a laptop running XP Home as well - that has the
same work related Word docs on it.....They open/close
MUCH more quickly on the laptop!
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks, N.
