Word 2002, DOT file, editing fields

I have a protected .dot file that my company uses regularrly. I had
typed some information into the fields desginated for text. I then
realized I needed change part of the .dot file that was not part of the
text field. I unprotected the document, made the necessary changes,
then re-protected the document. I can no longer edit the text in the
field, as when I click on that section, the entire field-block is
highlighted and deletes when something is typed. I also tried to
copy/paste this information into a new blank document, but it copies
the entire field and I still cannot edit it.

I really would like to know how I can now edit the information in the
field.
