Word 2002 "has stopped working" new Vista install

I've just installed Office XP Standard 2002 on my new Vista desktop.
Excel, Outlook, PPoint work fine, but Word will not start from
Programs or within Outlook. Error messages are "Windows checking for
solutions" and "trying to recover".
