Word 2002 : problem with tables : cannot set "Fixed column width" as default setting

Hello everybody.

Not a major issue, but it bothers me a lot.

Until now, whenever I created a table, either by using the toolbar "insert
table"
button, or going to Menu |Tables | Insert Table... the columns of the table
inserted had a fixed width. It had always
been like this.

Now, for some reason, although the "Fixed Column Width" is always selected
in the Insert Table dialog box, whenever I insert a table the cells
automatically resize to fit the text entered, as if the "Autofit to
contents" was the default setting.

And because I do not want this, everytime I insert a table, I then have to
change its properties.

How can I set the default settings to return to "Fixed column width"
whenever I inser a table?
Anyone ?

Many thanks in advance for your kind help.
Best regards,
Daniel

Sorry about my lousy English.

Hi Daniel,

When you insert a new table, is "Fixed width" checked in the dialog?

If not, check it, and also check the item at the very bottom of the dialog
(something like "Save settings for new tables").

Regards,
Klaus

Hello Klaus,

Thank you for your message.
Yest indeed Ithe "Fixed width" box was always checked, as well as the one
to "Save the settings". I tried everything, to no avail.
So I decided to repair Word using the built-in feature in Menu | Help, and
things seem to be back to normal . Of course I had to re-enter all my
preferred parameters...

Many thanks again for your kind help.
Brgds,
Daniel
