Word 2002 refuses to open documents from a folder

If I have Word open, I can open files.

However, if I double-click on an icon, or right-click and
select Open, either:

* Word opens, checks for viruses, and then absolutely
nothing happens (document does not open)
or
* I get the error message "There was a problem sending
the command to the program."

What is going on?

Hi Ruth,

Are you able to open the documents using File/Open in Word? If so then
try the following:

- Go to Start/Run
- Type: winword /r
- Click OK to run the command

Note the space before the forward slash.
