Word 2002 - Runtime Error

J

Jill

Almost every time I use Word I get the following error
message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
------------------------------------
Runtime Error!

Program:C:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftOffice\Office10
\WINWORD.EXE

abnormal program termination

Sometimes it happens within a few minutes, sometimes it
happens after I've been using Word for an hour or more. I
have no choice but to close the program. When I reopen
it, the auto-recovery feature lists my document but when
I click to open it again I get the same error message and
am forced to close the program again. I have never been
able to recover a document because of this. Do I need to
re-install Word? I've had this problem ever since I
bought this computer a few months ago.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Jill,

I would request you to rename Normal.dot.

Rename the Normal.dot Global Template
To rename the Normal.dot global template, follow these steps:
Quit all Office programs.
Double-click the Support Template shortcut on your desktop.
In the Word 2003 Support Template, click Troubleshoot Utility.
In the Microsoft Word Troubleshooting Utility dialog box, click Normal.dot
Global Template in the Select an Item list, and then click Rename.
Click OK when you receive the following message:

path\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dot
Copied To
path\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates\11Normal.dot
Note The path of your Normal.dot global template may be different.
Click Close to close the Microsoft Word Troubleshooting Utility dialog box.
On the File menu, click Exit to quit Word.
Start Word the way that you typically do.

Note Do NOT use the Support Template shortcut on your desktop in step 8.

Please let me know has this helped You...
Thank You...

Hi again,
Thanks for responding so quickly!)
I don't have Word 2003, I have 2002 as I stated in my
post. Does that make a difference in the 'fix'
instructions that you gave me?
I also don't have a Support Template shortcut on my
desktop. I have searched through every file and folder on
my computer and cannot find what you're talking about.

Thanks again for any and all help you may be able to give
me.

Hi Jill,

This fix can be used for any version of Word. I request you to start from
renaming Normal.dot. that would fix the problem.

Thank You...
