Word 2002 - Save and Save As doesn't work

Word 2002 running on Windows XP

When I try to save a document using Save As, I don't get a dialog box.
Also, when this happens, I can't Save a document, either. I have to
quit the program, losing whatever I was working on, reboot and run
Word 2002 again to fix the problem. But eventually, it comes back
after a while.

Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem--can't Save As, although Save works OK. Tried disabling per your suggestion but still doesn't work.
