Word 2003 becomes unresponsive

Pia

We have a small network of 3 computers, no server
1 of the computers is new and came with windows 200
and office 2003
The other two computers are a year older, had window
2000 and office 2002. After having bought the ne
computer I got the update for the other two machines

The new computer has had a problem from day one. Wor
becomes very unresponsive. It's almost impossible t
close the files and/or the application. We had an I
consultant out here to look at it, he couldn't fix it
As far as we can see fromt he Task Manager ther
are no weird applications running in the back ground
The virusfinders are up to date

I did download and install the word 2003 update KB83000
which supposedly fixes that error, but it doesn't
We have no problem with the two older machines

Any ideas what to do
(being no IT professional

Thanks

Pia

I looked at those articles allready before I posted
They did not address the problem we have
Word is not becoming slow, it freezes, but when
get the task manager to display, it does not sho
word as unresponsive
It's also not the network access, because I have copie
the files on the computers harddisk and worked fro
there and the same problem occurs, I'm pretty sur
the issue is not network related

Thank you

Sorry, I forgot to mention in my previous reply
the error does not happen when trying to ope
the files, but it just suddenly occurs while workin
in word, just when typing
Sometimes, when saving

I have been experiencing the same issue. Word hangs while
I am working on a document. When I view the Task Manager
I periodically see the CPU usage hitting full capacity and
word is taking it up.

I am also experiencing this problem. Our company's IT
staff cannot fix it. Word has been reinstalled (I
understand that this may not have been a "clean"
reinstall). I am running XP connected to a network and
Word 97.

I have added all of the updates available and still this
problem persists. I am not sure what to do at this point.

Check your antivirus software; run tests with the antivirus enabled then
disabled and time for performance; we just went through a similar issue;
could be an anitvirus configuration setting.
