I have 2 users on Word 2003 (from Office System 2003 Professional) running
Windows XP SP1. About 1 out of 3 times when the minimize Word then later go
to maximize/restore it Word just closes, no errors, nothing in the event
log. If I reopen word it will try to recover the open documents. I have 38
other workstations that don't do this. Does anybody have any clues on where
to begin to track this down?

Thanks.

Hi Glenn,

You've encountered a bug/corruption in the Handwriting Recognition
services. What it has to do with minimizing/restoring I don't know,
but I do know the solution. ;-)

Try the following:

- Open your Control Panel
- Open Regional and Language Settings
- Select the Language tab
- Click Details
- Remove Handwriting Recognition

If you are using the Handwriting Recognition service then you should
be able to add it back without further problems. So far no one knows
why this error occurs and I've been unable to reproduce the error
since I encountered it, which is why I know the solution - I spent a
few months troubleshooting this issue before I finally found the
underlying problem, so if you could provide some additional
information we would appreciate it.

- What other Language services do you have installed?
- Do you have more than one language available?
- Any additional details you think may be helpful.

Beth,

I've made the change on the machine that has the problem 5 or 6 times a day.
So far so good. Once I'm on-site with the client I'll find out the other
details you have requested.

Glenn
