Word 2003 crashes on minimize maximize

I open 2 or more documents in Word 2003.
Then I minimize all windows by clicking on "Show desktop"
button.
Then I click on the word document on task bar and word
crashes.

No error message, no message in event log, word.exe is
not running (when i see in task manager)

I'm running Windows XP Pro with all latest updates
installed and Office 2003 with all updates instlled.

anyone know any thing abt this ?

Try removing handwriting recognition in Start | Control Panel | Regional and Languge Settings | Language tab | Details | <select Handwriting Recognition> | Remove. If this fixes the problem, and if you need to use handwriting recognition, then you can add it back and it should work okay after you re-add it.

Not the foggiest idea. One of the MVPs narrowed it down and the solution
works. Obviously something gets corrupted and by removing it and reinstating
it, the problem is resolved. Maybe XP SP2 will resolve the issue.

I suspect it has something to do with a conflict in the Speech/Text
services and multiple instances of the application window since it
doesn't occur with a single document window nor when you change to a
multiple document interface (MDI accomplished by turning off the
"Windows in taskbar" option).

It doesn't actually have anything to do with restoring the application
window other than that's when the conflict is encountered. And I'd say
the error isn't handled correctly so the Word task ends.

Unfortunately this is one of those bugs that can not be reproduced and
that's the first step in finding a solution and the underlying cause
of the error. Knowing how to correct it isn't always enough. :)

It's interesting you encountered it after applying the Office 2003
SP-1 patch. There were some other speech/text services errors
corrected and I was hoping those corrections would resolve this issue
as well.

That's why I was hoping that XP SP2 resolves the problem!

Since we've had reports of the bug also occurring on Windows 2000 it
makes me think it's an Office conflict. I'm still keeping my fingers
crossed though. :)

Very fresh - it was live within minutes of uploading it and my post
wasn't too far behind. I think I'm starting to like Community
Solutions.

Now if they could only get rid of the big bold disclaimer that takes
up a quarter of the page. <g>
