Word 2003 drawings in Word 2007

I am having a problem with the different way Word 2007 handles drawings. If
I open a drawing I did with Word 2003 (in Compatibility Mode) I can still
double-click it and edit the drawing outside the document. If I click a line
in the drawing, I can still hold <Shift> and resize the line. I can do
almost everything that 2003 did.

One of the problems I am having is resizing the drawing (there is no Resize
Drawing button that I can find within the drawing page). When I close the
drawing and return to the document, only a small portion of the drawing
shows. I have to go to the Format Picture box and enter a large negative
crop (as in 10 inches or more) and then continually resize the drawing
manually.

Another problem is adding a new line to a drawing (whether in a 2003 drawing
or a new one). It will draw a line without any problem, but if I try to
resize it (holding <Shift> and dragging the line end) it immediately grows to
180 inches. the only way I can resize to a precise point is to leave <Shift>
off and try to keep the line straight manually (lining up in the center of
the dot).

The line end dot itself is different. My 2003 drawings have blue dots and I
can resize them using <Shift> as before. New lines from 2007 have green
dots. those I can't resize properly.

Has anyone found a workaround for these kinds of problems? I'm thinking of
trying to reload Word 2003 just for my drawings. My main use for Word is
drawings and 2007 just doesn't work.
