Word 2003 hangs when opening document

Arlene

All of a sudden when I open a Word document, I
see "scanning for Viruses" in the bar below and it's
taking forever for a document to open.

I haven't had this probelem before. Also, now I'm see
the speach icon below so don't know if that has anything
to do with it. Have no idea why that showed up either. LOL

I took the cd and repaired office but that didn't help.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

P.S. I have Norton Antivirus 2003 but it didn't seem to
create this problem before.

Thanks!

I just disabled "enable office plugin" in my Norton and
when I open a document I still see "scanning for
viruses"! Does Word 2003 have it's own virus protection?

I don't understand how it can still say that when I
turned it off!

Someone please help!

Thanks

Did you restart Word after disabling the plug-in?

It looks like a problem with Norton Antivirus 2003. I started having
the same problem last night, too. Also, Windows hangs for a little
while when starting up.

It started happening to me after the latest NAV and program updates
that I installed.

I've just uninstalled Norton, and that took care of it. Now, I have
to figure out what to do about antivirus software... I tried checking
the Norton knowledge base and didn't find anything.

Well if you reads through these Newsgroups, NAV is definitely a real pile of
poo. Without doubt, the two best Anti Virus solutions are Kapersky and
FSecure: good but a little pricey.
