Word 2003 - inserting a segment of one document into another

Trish

Hi, I have a main document, plus some other smaller documents. If I want to
insert just one page from the smaller documents, how do I do this? I want
to have the data in editable format. The only thing I have been able to do
is insert the whole of the smaller document.

Also, I did have a problem a while ago when i was copying text and tables
from one document to another because it was not keeping the original
formatting. Someone on your site very kindly helped me with the suggestion
that I click on the paste options button and select "retain source
formatting". That worked great, but sometimes when I paste, the paste
options button does not show - i have had a look at my toolbar menu and
cannot see anything there. Any suggestions?

I hope someone can help me with these two issues asap! Many thanks. Trish

Hi Trish,

If you bookmark the portion of your source document that you want to insert into the target document, you can use an INCLUDETEXT
field (see Insert|Field) to import just that portion. This will enable you to do your editing of the linked material in either
document. If you do your editing in the target document, you'll have to select the linked portion and press Ctrl-Shift-F7 to update
the source document.

Your second question: copy the source text, Edit/Paste Special/Paste as
Formatted text will retain the source formatting (like paste as
unformatted text will assume the destination formatting)
