WORD 2003 & NAV 2004

Has anyone else noticed that when you install norton
antivirus 2004, that Word 2003 starts up very slowly? As
soon as you uninstall norton, Word starts up as usual. Is
there a fix for this problem?

Thanks,

Just disabling the Office Plug-in usually suffices.

i know, but that doesn't solve the problem. it's still
SLOW.

This has been a recurring issue with NAV. Best to take it up with Symantec.

Hello,

I had problems opening Word and Excel on a Win 98 and Win XP machine.
It seems to have happened after updating NAV 2003. Unchecking "Enable
Office Plug-in" fixes that problem.

But I think there are other problems: NAV itself seems really funky.
For example, clicking on the NAV icon in the system tray seems to do
nothing most of the time. I never saw that before. And when the NAV
dialog finally opens, it's as funky as all get out. I think they
screwed up big time.

I'm thinking it's time for me to look for an alternative to Norton. Is
McAfee any better?

Yes, MacAfee is streets ahead of NAV. However, the best AV solution is
provided by Kapersky and FSecure. Both don't come cheap, but then the best
hardly ever does.

I know this sounds crazy, but set your date back to Jan 6th and it
will work fine. It seems to be a NAV error downloaded on the 7th.
Don't update NAV until they have a fix after you re-set the date or it
will come back.

It has nothing to do with the download. Norton let their Verisign
Certificate expire on 7 Jan: that is why the problem occurred for ALL NAV
users on that date (except for those that wisely have already disabled the
Office Plug-in).

We've already disabled plug-ins after the problem hit, but we're still having some problems reinstalling NAV -- any suggestions?
