word 2003 org charts

I am trying to create an org chart in Word 2003. For some reason, the "click
to add text" function does not work as it does in PowerPoint. Instead, once
I click in the box and type, the font defaults to Times New Roman and acts as
a regular text box.

Hi Macon,

The Insert=>Diagram=>Org Chart applet for Office 2003
is a shared feature from Word and Powerpoint and you
are working in a 'controlled' text box in both.

In Word, you can apply formatting styles to your text
from the Formatting toolbar)
By default you will be using whatever is defined as
the 'Normal' style (click on the 'AA' icon on your
formatting toolbar to open the formatting & styles
taskpane) and Times New Roman would be the default.

In Powerpoint it starts with the default font of
your slide layout, Arial by default.

If you're wanting them to match you can change or
create a style in Word to use the Powerpoint font
choice or change Powerpoint's font to the one in Word.

Bob,

Thanks for your reply! That is probably what's happening. Though I still
can't figure out why the "click here to edit" function does not work. It
works fine in PowerPoint, allowing the text to autoformat, center, etc. In
Word, I have to select the text "click here to edit" to write over it and it
doesn't automatically center the text, instead acting as though it's a
paragraph (top, left).

Thanks again!

Hi Macon,

In Word it takes on the attributes of your 'Normal' style
by default when you're typing, but when pasting text
you have a choice on how it pastes if you turn on the
[x] Show Paste Options button in Tools=>Options=>Edit
Normal is a paragraph style *except* that
the Org Chart uses the text box justification (usually
centered while Normal is usually left justified), in other
words the org chart has a mind of its own somewhat :) but
it seems to default to center pretty much.

Did you try this in a new document?
You may also want to try a new document starting Word in
Office safe mode (hold down ctrl key while starting Word)
to see if you get the same result.
