Word 2003 savinf multiple temp files

Jeff

Has anyone ever experienced the problem below with Word 2003?

When saving a file it creates multiple temp files on the desktop. It doesn't
matter where the original is saved, multiple temp file still appear on
desktop.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

This is normal behavior. Some temp files are created in the same folder as
the document, as described in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632

The temp files you are seeing should be automatically deleted when the file
is closed. There may be a few that will not be deleted until Word is closed.

Beth, those temp files are not normally created on the desktop as the OP
states is happening.

To the OP, You might check Tools/Options/File locations and see what
location is specified for the last three items, especially the Autorecovery
files location - that should be Documents and Settings\LOGINNAME\application
data\microsoft\word. If it is something else, especially pointing to the
desktop this could be your problem. Another problem would happen if you
have an environmental variable set to the desktop instead of a temp folder.

At first I didn't know what you were referring to, since Word does use the
source folder for some temp files, but now I see the OP is saying the files
aren't stored on the Desktop so that would be another issue.

Thanks for the correction. :)
