Word 2003 template problem/error 1605

I have Mathtype and Adobe PDF plugins, and I just upgraded
to Office 2003 from the betas. The beta versions were
working just fine with the plugins, but now, upon startup,
I will get the error

"Microsoft Office Word can't display the template used in
this document. Microsoft Office Word cannot install the
necessary files due to Windows Installer error 1605. This
action is only valid for products taht are currently
installed."

So I just hold down the ENTER key until the the dialog box
disapears, and afterwards, everything works as normal. Any
ideas how to fix this? I have no problem running anything
else in the Office 2003 suite.

Quick note: i have completely uninstalled and reinstalled
Office 2003, mathtype and adobe acrobat, and the error
still shows up. From searches, I've seen claims about
Registry errors, but I've tried some of the startup fixes
at mvps.org/word (somewhere there), but to no avail. Any
suggestions?

I solved my own problem, at least with Mathtype, by copying the .dot templates from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\startup to doc&settings\<user>\application data\microsoft\word\startup

Seems to work, and apparently Word 2003 doesn't like to load ANY templates under the C:\program Files directory (at least for my computer), but anything in the application data directory is ok.

Found idea after searching in msdn. Hope this helps others if the same problem pops up.

Hi Joe,

Sorry, I just now saw your post - but I'm glad you found the solution.

Another poster encountered the same issue back in August in this
newsgroup and found the PDFMaker template generated an error if it
wasn't placed in the Word Startup folder found under
Tools/Options/File Locations Startup.

The previous poster found if PDFMaker.dot was in the Office\Startup
folder and if the Office\Startup folder was specified as the Word
Startup folder (which is the Trusted Startup folder) then the error
did not occur.

I would be interested to know if you find the same scenario
(PDFMaker.dot as the source of the error) and if so obtain some
additional details such as the full version number for Word found
under Help/About Microsoft Word, the version of Adobe PDF you are
using, and the modification date for PDFMaker.dot.

Thanks for any help you can provide. :)
