Word 2003 Toolbar Problem

I have a problem with too many buttons of 123fileconvert on my word
toolbar.

I had lost a working draft of a large project & thought 123fileconvert
might work to convert a PDF copy I had on another system.....long story
short, it didn't work so I uninstalled it.

When I next opened word on my laptop, I had six(6) 123fileconvert
buttons on the toolbar, none of which work.

Have gone into customize, unchecked & removed the entries & they're
gone. I close word & when I open it again, the buttons are back.

Do I need to un-install & re-install word or office to correct this, or
is there another solution?

Thanks

It sounds like the add-in is malfunctioning or to put it another way,
the creator of the add-in doesn't know how to properly integrate their
commands in Word.

To correct the problem you'll need to add-in causing the issue. I
suspect uninstalling didn't remove it so check the Word Startup folder
and Office\Startup folder for it and either delete it when you find it
or move it to another folder to prevent it from loading when Word
starts.

The location of the Word Startup folder can be found under
Tools/Options/File Location and the Office\Startup folder is in the
Office installation path.

If you don't find an add-in in the Startup folders then it might be a
COM Add-in. If that's the case then post back and we'll provide you
additional instructions for locating it.

Thanks for the reply...you were right about an orphan file.

While I was waiting for a reply to my post, Iremembered I had an orphan
cleaner, so loaded & ran it...it found a .dll stragler.

Removing the stragler cleared up the problem.

When I went to look for the 'startup' folder, I thought I'd created
another problem, because there was no 'application data' folder.

Then I remembered to see if I'd checked 'show hidden files' in the
folder options.....I hadn't & that gave me the rest of the tree.

Thanks again

I'm glad you have the problem resolved.Depending on whether the DLL is
installed per-user or per-machine they can be a little difficult find
and many times a third-party utility is required to find it. Glad to
hear you had one and it was easy. :)

Thought I was done with 123fileconvert, but found another hanger-on. A
dead link remains in the File dropdown.

How do I remove it.

Thanks

Won't work.....this link is in the dropdown "File" menu box,
immediately under the "Open" button.

I'm not sure what you mean by "won't work". Are you going to
Tools/Customize before dragging it off?

If you mean it continues to reappear then you have another add-in that
is adding the command each time Word starts.
