Word 2003 - View Tab under Options is greyed out

Hello,

I am trying to view headers and footers in word and when I went to TOOLS,
OPTIONS - view tab it was greyed out and I am unable to make any changes on
this tab.

How do I ungrey the tab so I can check the white apce between pages box?
