Word 2003 -- want to remove automatic "Delete Block?"

Deleting text in Word 2003 (XP) requires 3-clicks of the
all detele buttons (Delete, <--Backspace, right delete on
number pad). Click 1) brings up "Delete Block? No (Yes)."
Click 2) does nothing. Click 3) removes text. How can I
stop this automatic function?????? Thanks for any help.

Tools | Options | General: clear the check boxes for both items that refer
to WordPerfect.
