Did you go on line and run Office Update?

Are you using Norton Anti Virus? Open NAV and deselect the Office Plug-in
option.

I did all the Office Updates including Office 2000
Updates. When I try to open my test file save that I was
able to write in Word 2003 it tells me a virus scan is
taking place and it hangs. I am running AVG antivirus. I
also have the problem that other people wrote in this
discussion group about Do you want to save "Normal" and it
refuses to go away.

Well Office does not have any Anti Virus capability. If you are seeing that
message, it has to be an anti virus utility causing the problem. Have you
ever had NAV installed? Have you been to AVG support and check ed with them?
