Word 2003 will not remember options settings

Those items are all saved in the registry which turns the circle and
suggests that there's something inhibiting changes/resetting/restoring the
registry on restart.

Thanks Terry. Is there any point, do you think, in pursuing a solution or
should I just learn to live with it?

Personally, I would because I would not be happy knowing that something is
stopping the registry changes taking effect. Let's see if Beth has any other
ideas...

Beth, I have no add-ins installed.

What is not being saved is anything that you can adjust after clicking on
Tools>Options - view, save, print details etc. Everything else, such as
customised icons on toolbars, is saved OK.

If your changes to the Registry aren't being saved and you aren't prevented
from saving Registry changes (many in corporate environments are) then the
behavior still points to an add-in. One problem with add-ins in Word is some
can be a little hard to find. You do need to completely rule this out first
before proceeding. Even if you're sure it doesn't hurt - sometimes they
sneak in without you knowing about them. :) Try the following to verify any
possible add-ins:

1. On the Tools menu, point at Macro, and click Security in the submenu
2. Select the Security Level tab
3. Set macro security to Medium
4. Select the Trusted Publishers tab
5. Deselect Trust all installed add-ins and templates
6. Select each Trusted Source and click Remove
7. Exit and restart Word
8. When prompted to Enable/Disable macros note file name and location of
each add-in displayed in the message box

If you do find an add-in is loading then let us know the name and we can
advise from there.

Note that those add-ins that start with F*.DLL, such as FStock.DLL,
FName.DLL are for smart tags and have not been known to cause errors at this
time. Additionally, Enable/Disable macros at your discretion. They do not
need to enabled to determine the location and name however they will need to
be enabled in order to test your troubleshooting results.

Thanks for this Beth. I'll do as you suggest and report back.

Beth, all macros are F*.dll apart from one - MOFL.dll. Does that help?

Thanks.

Ian

Just a quick question: are you able to run Regedit to make changes yourself
to the Registry?

Not sure whether to give up hope here, guys, or continue to look at the
thread with my little British fingers firmly crossed!
