Word 2003 won't Open Anything

I am using MS Office XP Pro 2003 and for some reason
every time I try to open a word document, it will not let
me. I have tried to reinstall, and get the same
message: "**.txt is not available." What do I do? This
also happens with newly saved files.

Also, whenever I try to close a document it says that I
have changed the "normal" template but haven't touched
any options.

PLEASE HELP!

If you are running Norton Antivirus, disable the Office Plugin that
comes with it.
