Word 2004 cannot use the Spanish Custom Dictionary

Hi,

Word 2004 cannot use the Spanish Custom Dictionary on Mac OS X
10.2.8.

When starting checking the spelling it says "The Custom Dictionary
"Spanish Custom Dictionary" is not available".

The error shows when I have selected my older Word v.X 10.1.4 (Office
10.1.5) Spanish Custom Dictionary, but also if I create a brand new
(blank) Spanish Custom Dictionary.

This problem is 100% consistent: all the times.

Yet, no problem with other custom dictionaries like the English or
French.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Hi,

Is it a Word 2004 bug or is it just me?

Since nobody answers, could someone please create a new custom
dictionary for Spanish in Word 2004 and spell check a Word 2004 file
with just two words (one set as English and the other set as Spanish)?

Note: make sure the words are not in the standard dictionaries; for
example use frienddd for English and amigooo for Spanish.

Could you reproduce the issue that I reported (below)?

Thanks.

Hi,

Could someone please do this (set a Spanish Custom Dictionary and try
to spell check)?

Thanks.

Beth,

Thanks.

Just configuring any custom dictionary as "Spanish" brings the error
message right after closing the preferences window (before spell
checking). Also if you spell check, even if no text is selected as
Spanish in the text. Amazing but true.

Also if some text is selected as Spanish in the document. Even the
simplest example with a word file with a single word inside set as any
language or as Spanish as well.

It is weird mainly because any other custom dictionary like English,
French or German work fine.

I am utterly puzzled. Word v.X 10.2.5 worked fine with the Spanish
Custom Dictionary, but Word 2004 has this issue.

Even with newly created custom dictionary that contain no words inside.
Even placing it at:

/Users/me/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Custom Dictionary

or at

/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Shared Applications/Proofing
Tools/Custom Dictionary

or at

/Users/me/Documents/Dictionaries/Word/Custom Dictionary

I would appreciate if anyone could test this issue in Word 2004 - just
creating and selecting or selecting any custom dictionary as Spanish
and closing the preferences window or checking spelling (selecting or
not any word as Spanish inside the document).

Thanks.

Hi,

Could someone set a custom dictionary as "Spanish" in Word 2004 (view
as Page Layout)?

As said, whey I try to do it I get the error message that such Spanish
custom dictionary is not available (even before spell checking; just
after closing the preferences window) an also if I try to spell check
text with some Spanish word (even one word like "casax") set as
Spanish. Then the "Add" button to add new words to the Spanish
dictionary is grayed and thus cannot be selected to teach Word 2004
Spanish words into such custom dictionary.

Utterly weird, since I have no problem with other custom dictionaries
like English, French or German.

Thanks.

Hi,

This one seems a hard one.

I will very much appreciate if somebody could test this (see below).

Because I do not know if it is just my system or a true Word 2004 bug.
If somebody can reproduce this, then it must be a bug.

Thanks.
