Word 2004 Filenames as autotext

I have been placing the filenames of documents as "autotext" in my
footers for years. When I'd change the filenames, Word would update
the autotext filename the next time I'd open the document.

With Word 2004, the autoptext filenames do not update...ever. Is this
a bug or is there some sort of work-around.

Your claim about what you've been doing "for years" doesn't make much
sense to me, as there is nothing about autotexts that would make them
change by themselves. A field, on the other hand, can show the name of
the document (Insert > Field > Document Information > Filename), and
will update when you tell it to update with the Update Field command. m.
