Word 2004 for Mac, Audio Notes crash problem

Dear Group,

I'm running Word 2004 for Mac version 11.3.8 on an Intel MacBook with
OS 10.4.10. When I record audio using the Audio Notes function, Word
frequently freezes/crashes when I save the file/document, and after
Force Quit of Word (the only way to deal with the crash) the audio is
lost, and sometimes some of my typed notes.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to remedy this problem? I'd be
very grateful for any assistance!!

Sincerely,

Greg

Hi Greg:

1) Remove your Normal template and allow Word to generate a new one.

2) Don't copy or edit documents with audio notes in them.

3) Make sure the document is on your local drive.

Documents with audio notes in them rapidly swell to become extremely large
files that represent a severe challenge to Word.

If there are any problems with the document's internal coding, or the
connection to the disk, you can expect problems.

The temptation is to copy another document of the correct format and use
that to record the notes for a new meeting. Avoid that: it's asking for
trouble.

Create a new blank Normal template, copy it, and put in the appropriate
headings for your meeting and save it as a template. Start each new
recording document from that template, which has been edited only once.

Cheers
