Word 2004 Save error: "Too many files are open"

Processor: Power PC

I have a user on an Intel iMac running 10.4.11 in a roaming/mobile environment. When trying to save a document, Word frequently gives the error "Word cannot complete the operation because too many files are open."

It seems that, as of October 2005, this was a complicated and persistent issue. The most recent information I can find is from Rob Daly, either with or formerly with the MBU:

We have tried all the workarounds, including specifying the path to the user's remote Documents folder (as mentioned, all user profiles live on a server running 10.4.11 Server), with no success. Was this error ever more fully addressed?

Thanks.

(I should clarify: the original post header reads PPC, but the iMac is in fact an Intel Core 2 Duo.)

No. Not in Word 2004. It's still not bullet-proof in Word 2008.

I would advise the user to work locally.

Cheers
