Word 2007 Bibliography not active

Is there any way to fix the problem of Bibliography functionality grayed out
besides reinstalling the app? I don't want to reinstall Office again. It is a
full install with everything enabled but for some reason the Bibliography
buttons are disabled, so I cannot add Bibliography or Manage Sources at all.
Any help in this respect will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
