Word 2007 Crashes on Close

Everytime i close Word 2007 it crashes informing me that it needs to
recover the last used file, If i cancel it i get a message that the
recovery file is corrupt or missing. This is a fresh install on a
fresh install of vista with all the latest office 07 patches.

System
OS: Windows Vista Business
Processor: Athlon 64 3800+
Ram: 2gb
HDD: 250gb WD SATA

I wonder if it's a registry problem. While the steps shown in the article
referred to below were designed for earlier versions of Word, I find that
they still have some applicability to Word 2007, as well:

the article outlines several errors with several fixes, which do you
believe might be relevant in this situation?
