Word 2007: customise the ribbon?

N

Nigel Molesworth

Is it possible to customise the ribbon? Either remove or move groups?

I've got a bunch of macros that I use a lot, and I'd rather have them
on the Home tab, whereas I rarely use Styles (yes, I know I should)

I know I could put them on the Quick Access Toolbar.

Hi Nigel,

The Ribbon is made with XML so and understands a syntax set known as RibbonX[ml], if you're in to a bit of
quasi-programming, yes you can customize the Ribbon using Ribbonx to replace/add/remove groups but possibly not to the extent you're
thinking of doing.

You may want to start with the Webcast in the lower right corner of that page to get an idea of how you might proceed.

In Office 2007 Macros and custom menus normally end up in the
'Add-ins' tab of the Ribboned apps without programming or 'extending'.

There is already at least one 3rd party tool, RibbonCustomizer, that you may want to try to see if you're going to be able to get
the result you want. Here's a review (and a picture of the author <g>) as well as a download link.

What a nice picture of me ;)

With the version that's out there right now, you can get rid of Styles,
but you can't add your macros to the home tab (I am looking into that
though).
If you want to do this, you'll need to use RibbonX itself. In addition
to what Bob suggested, take a look at
http://pschmid.net/office2007/ribbonx
I'll get around to adding more content to this soon.
