Word 2007 - File not Found error on startup

F

FG

I've been running the beta since it was made available.

This morning, when I started Word, I got a "File not Found" error message.
The error window was titled "Microsoft Visual Basic". When I acknowledged
Word displayed a blank page OK and appears to be OK although I did one print
out later and got several sheets of blank paper.

Diagnostics come up with a clean bill of health.

Every time I've started since I get this same error. Have searched UG for
this error and cannot find anything.

Anybody?

If you're getting the message only when starting Word, it sounds like it
might be an add-in that's misfiring. Have you installed something recently?
Some add-ins work by using an AutoExec macro that runs when Word first
starts up.

I would check macros to see if you have an AutoExec or other macro that's
trying to run.

I would also try Office button - Word Options - Add-Ins tab and see what's
on the list of Active Applications Add-ins.

Thanks for your reply.

I've checked and there are no autoexec or startups running when Word
starts. The only template that loads is normal.dotm.

Active Add-Ins
Adobe PDF maker Office
Measurement Converter
Person name (Outlook e-mail recipients)

There are 4 inactive add-ins. There are no disabled add-ins.

I now wonder if It could be a macro-related problem as I have 2 macros I
wrote years ago that are attached to the normal.dotm template. They are
listed but I cannot run, step into, or edit them. One is a simple key
press to transpose two characters on either side of the cursor and the
other creates a new document and prints the fonts list, using the
appropriate font (pre-dates Word 2003!). These were presumably carried
forward from an old normal.dot template as I didn't insert them into Word
2007.

My macro security settings are set to "disable all macros with
notification" by default so I changed this to "Run all macros (not
advised)" to see if I could access them but it didn't make any
difference. Even stranger, I cannot delete these as clicking on "delete"
in macro manager has no effect. Possible corrupt normal.dotm template?

I've tried repairing Office 2007 Beta 2 this afternoon and am no further
forward.

Problem solved!

I've discovered another normal template with a pling icon of type macro-
enabled template in the same folder as the normal.dotm template. The date
stamp was today's so I removed it out of curiousity to see what would
happen. Word is now back to normal and my own macros respond once again.

One of the interesting things about Word 2007 is its eagerness to load both
normal.dot and normal.dotm files. Nice that it was something so "simple",
eh? ;-)
