Word 2007 hangs showing the field codes

Hi, I've some documents (.doc written in previous versions of Word) on
wich Word2007 hangs when showing the fieldcodes (alt-F9), consuming a
lot of CPU. It seems to enter in a endless loop. I tried to save them
as docx to update the internal format but the problem is still the
same. Opening them in Word2003 and pressing Alt-F9 works just fine, no
problems, no issues. Word 2007 (12.0.6504.5000) SP2, tried with German
and Italian edition.
Any help appreciated.

Hi Stephan,
I tried to rename the key (first I closed Winword from task manager)
but the problem remains the same. It must have to do with the specific
document. With other documents the ShowFieldcodes (Alt-F9) works
without problems. Is there an address I can send the document to, so
the technical staff can debug this problem? I think it's in the
interest of Microsoft to resolve problems like this.

Hi Stefan,
I tried to save the doc as .rtf. Reopening the rtf I've the same
problem. Saving it as unfiltered html and reopening it the Alt-F9 works
without problems, but a lot of formatting, textboxes in header and
footer are gone. Should I find a work around I'll let you know. Thanks
for your assistance.

Normally, saving in the "Web Page (*.htm, *.html)" format should preserve
the formatting just fine.

However, if that doesn't work, have you tried copying the document except
the final paragraph mark to a new document?

To show/hide paragraph marks (¶) as well as other nonprinting marks, press
Ctrl+Shift+8.

Hi Stefan,
that was it. Saving the doc to a new one without the last paragraph
didn't risolve. Pasting the text to a new doc but without the last
paragraph resolved. Thanks again.
