Word 2007 hangs when closing document

I just installed Office 2007 after a recovery install on my laptop with XP
SP3 (and installed all current updates) and whenever I close any Word
document the app hangs. When clicking on the menu bar it says (not
responding) and after closing it says "the program has encountered a problem
and cannot exit. Sorry for any inconvenience" and I have to click on "Exit
now". I have tried to redo the recovery and re-installed everything (XP
updates -> Office updates) but the problem remains. Could this problem be
memory related? I recently installed 4 GB RAM instead of the 2 GB I had
before.

I have the same problem with Word running on vista and I have 3GBs of
memory. Do you know if there is a fix for this?

I had the same problem and I went to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word

I changed the word folder only to OldWord and closed it. Then, when I
opened my Word program, all was well. Fixes itself. Don't know why, but it
did. Good idea to back up your registry first!!

Got a response from a techie friend and it worked for me, but as I said -
back up your registry first.

Worked for me to. Great. You loose you old settings but solves the problem. I
had tried disabling Add-ins etc.. to no avail. I have word 2007 on Vista

It also worked for me on Win7. Thanks a bunch. It was easy to find this post, and easy to make the fix. Made my day!
