Word 2007 Simple Numbering Style - URGENT PLEASE

L

LPS

I am writing a document in Word 2007 and have created a simple numbering
style: 1. 2. 3.....

Everytime I apply the style I have to reset the numbering to 1, which is
fine. What is driving me crazy, very rapidly, is the fact that after I save
and close the document, with all the numbering as it should be (e.g. each
group has its numbers starting at 1), when I re-open the document, the
numbering has gone wild and none of the individual groups have retained their
numbering starting at 1 (I have not edited the style in any way, shape or
form). For example instead of the following numbering sequence in each
group:

Copy and Paste (Group 1)
1. Select your text
2. Click the COPY button on the Home tab
3. Go to your destination
4. Click the paste button on the Home tab.

Cut and Paste (Group 2)
1. Select your text
2. Click the CUT button on the Home tab
3. Go to your destination
4. Click the paste button on the Home tab.

What I end up with is the following:

Copy and Paste (Group 1)
1. Select your text
2. Click the COPY button on the Home tab
3. Go to your destination
4. Click the paste button on the Home tab.

Cut and Paste (Group 2)
5. Select your text
6. Click the CUT button on the Home tab
7. Go to your destination
8. Click the paste button on the Home tab.

I have completed the manual and do not have time (or the patience) to go
back and manually number the groups (God help me if Word cannot support basic
numbering). PLEASE, is there any way to tell Word to NOT re-number text that
has had a numbering style applied to it? If you know, please save my sanity
and tell me?
As always, all help is greatly appreciated.
